According to publishing historians, these snapshots go back to the original concept for Playboy...which was geared toward "inflatable beach eroticism."
The whole "Marilyn Monroe/nude centerspread" fiasco was a last minute substitute when Hef's old chum Leroy Neiman misplaced his sketches of "The Surf Mat Of The Future."
Who knows what could have come from Hef and Leroy if things had gone to plan back in 1953...they might be famous by now! As it is, all we have are these tantlizing images.
I tell you what, I really feel like I need to jump into some cold water after reading some of your more eye-popping posts! I'll just leave it at that...
