T2 Review

It's been four or five months now of exclusively riding a 4GF using Tech2 flippers. Of course the mat is just brilliant. And so far T2s are really good for me, as I have somewhat knobby feet, and cannot use superior Duck Feet/UDT/Viper for more than a few minutes. Good old Churchills are comfy but lack horsepower. The various bodyboard fins I've tried are okay but a bit painful.

Tech2s fit great, are soft and roomy, have never come off, and work fabulously in the surf. T2s are quick to accelerate, hold in pretty well on steep takeoff turns (I reckon Vipers dominate in this department), drain properly through the vent on the bottom, and let go of trapped sand quite easily. The only drawback is that they are too short for efficiently kicking long distances and up strong currents with real speed. If only they were two or three inches longer. But then they would be significantly less maneuverable in turbulent water and when in contact with sand and rocks. So, I'll settle for a little less speed and far more comfort plus functionality in the surf zone. I've seen some T2s that cracked along the edges, so I religiously rinse mine off with fresh water. Oh, and safety-tying flippers on with black shoelaces rules. Overall: I like 'em!

Great! I have a pair of those that I got for free from my last job. I thought they might not work for mat surfing. Now I'll know that when I'm out there floundering around on my new mat, I won't be able to blame my kookiness on the fins.

You lucky! T2s are way good enough for having heaps of fun. Definitely secure them to your ankles, as they don't float. So how is the matting going? I'm more mat-stoked lately than ever!!!

That shoestring flipper leash system is leading edge, Max! Do you recommend any particular brand or style of shoelace?

And Surfsister...what kind of job gives you free flippers? Where do I sign up?

Those A-grade laces came with some flash sneakers that I got from my girlfriend for my B-day. The shoebox came with two sets of laces, so I put the plaid ones in the tennies and the black ones on the T2s, to match my mat of course. Shoelaces on swimfins is as old school as navy blue boardshorts (which I tend to wear in the water to complement my black shoelaces and air mat).

I used to work in the ad department of the West Coast's leading sporting goods store. I got tons of free stuff. There's a bodyboard under the bed. I've never used it once. But the rep who handles water sports gave me the board and the fins.

My black shoelaces were free, too.
