1/6/09 -- Update from Cher in San Diego...

Hi Paul,

I have attached a photo of one of the flower and photo displays for Bob, near the bench at the cliffs.

Bob Clark was a warm-hearted friend with a clever sense of humor, who will be sorely missed. Over the years, we shared many good waves together. We were so happy that Bob and Susan were able to live their dream together in beautiful New Zealand.

We send our love and sincere sympathy to Susan and family, from the Pendarvis family.

Rest in Peace, Bob Clark

Love and Aloha, Cher and Steve

That's sad news. Bob seemed like a good man, and well-loved. I'm very sorry for his friends and family, it's a rough way for them to start the new year.

Oh man, what do you say and think when someone wonderful passes away so unexpectedly? I met Susan and Bob through my parents in Gisborne.

I'm so sorry for your loss Susan, Bob was a true shining light, as are you.

It's just so weird when people are suddenly not there. My friend Rupert Manalili drowned a few days ago in vicious shorebreak only a mile away from where I'm living in Hawaii. It's really a shocker when someone is so alive one day and gone the next. Even though it's going to happen to all of us, death is something I'll never completely get my head around.

Hopefully our spirits live on, and we will be reunited with those we love. In the meantime, such tragedies are a reminder to really appreciate everyone, and to truly live in the moment, as well as for the future.

Aloha Bob. Aloha Rupert.

At a will call for work I met up with someone I haven`t seen in 25 years. While we were talking about the old days at Jr High and friends in the old neighborhood, I mentioned Rupert. He informed me that Rupert had died and that his body was found on the beach in Hawaii. I was shocked and saddened, and I thought I`d try the internet to find out information which led me to this site.

I grew up with Rupert and went to school K-6 and 7-9th grade Jr High with him. He lived in the neigborhood right across from our Lakeview Elementary. We were very good friends growing up, though later we, as all my friends from back then eventually grew apart as communication between us got less and less often. What I remember about Rupert was his great personality and demeanor. He was a close friend growing up. He was smart, funny, silly at times, had a sense of humor, loved art and was good at it and he loved tennis in Jr High, he was on the tennis team at Lochburn (Borg was his idol), as well as honor society. We were in Lochburn singers and choir even, heh. I`ve known him so long, I remember when he liked girls, heh. It was years later from another friend where I heard he was gay. No matter.

I have pictures from elementary and of course yearbooks from Lochburn Jr High where he signed them like a best friend ...he was. I still for some reason have a very old eraser that was his that says 'Rupe' on it. I only wish we got together when he was at his moms old house a few years back, we never did hook up. I regret it highly now as I hadn`t seen him in 25 years. At that time on the phone he said he lived in NY for a while and was working as a Chef I think. If he was bouncing all over the place, he sure turned out to be a free spirit and adventurous as well. Rupert I miss you old friend (tears).

Hi Jeff,

Although I only knew Rupert for about four months, he had a tremendous positive influence on me. I reckon he's a genius. Fortunately the people in his shortened life recognized this and let him know so. If only he could have seen how uber cool he really is. Anyway, lucky us for knowing him!!! Thanks for your comments on Rupert's behalf! I solidly agree.

Cheers Mate,

Pahl

Hi Jo Jo,

I tried to click on your name here and you don`t have a 'profile'- so no email or contact info, so I`ll have to hijack this thread a little more (sorry, and no disrespect intended). So here`s mine:
