From the Files of Mr Dirk...

Hi Paul,

This seems seems apropos, somewhat like our totem friends the wave gliding pelicans.

Best,

Dirk

Great find! It really does translate to the aquatic. I wish I had a teacher like that when I was a kid.

Amazing! I flew a motorized hang-glider for many years before coming back to surfing on the new mats. The invisible waves in the sky are very solid real things when you have them under your wings.

I watched the sea birds riding waves a lot during this past winter, and it really seemed to apply to mat riding. To feel the energy of the waveform through that interface of air is a special sensation that you just don't get with a hard board. I think that attunement to that particular sensation improved my mat skills. On longer waves I could really concentrate on the subtlety and delicacy of it, and seeing those little paper airplanes triggered a similar memory.
