Anger Management...

Charlie Sheen's new show Anger Management premiered last night, and it was pretty good. The numbers were encouraging, so it may have time to mature into something memorable.

Viewers over 50 couldn't help but hear the echoes from the old Bob Newhart Show...with group sessions led by a well meaning, but somewhat neurotic therapist. Lot of potential for laughs there, for sure.

Why, oh, why wasn't Jack Riley one of the patients? He was brilliant as Elliot Carlin on Bob Newhart, and he's still around!

Admittedly, I'm partial to Jack Riley beyond his sitcom work in the past. Back in the 80's, we were at a theater production in Santa Barbara, and Riley was in the cast. During one of the scene changes the set collapsed, and they had a half hour to kill before it was back up. So Jack Riley came on stage and performed what he described as an authentic Vaudville routine. Given the friendly environment he had to work with (a captive audience ready for anything) whatever he did would have been entertaining...but his routine was convulsively funny. Makes you appreciate how much talent people bring to the table when they do even bit parts on TV shows or movies.

Anyway, if Anger Management keeps rolling, maybe we at 4GF can expect at lot of mat orders from Charlie!
