What is a polara?

The Polara is a model I've been working on for over a year. I'm looking for the perfect sweet spot between the Standard and the Omni. So far, 42-plus prototypes have been made and ridden by myself and mat riders all over the world.

It should be a model soon, but it's a "secret menu" item now if anyone's interested. They run $285 USD, plus shipping, as they are more complicated and time consuming to build.

Thanks Paul. I have a Standard and a Lotus. I have been looking for something for smaller days. How come the Polara is more complex? Or is that a trade secret. Anyway, please let me know when you have perfected it.

Thanks again for your amazing work

The Polara is a stroke of pure brilliance. Paul has created a new class of surf mat that has shockingly quick entry speed into the wave. For waves of average steepness (not too flat and not too steep), the mat catches the wave early and at full second gear. It just needs a wave with speed. Super slow waves are better suited to the larger mats. But the Polara seems to dominate surf in the stomach to foot overhead size range. It opens up some crazy possibilities. I love all the mats and the Polara has its own feel and sweet spot. Highly recommended if you have down the line surf spots.

I rode an Omni in triple overhead plus this winter and several times in double and a half overhead. The Polara is a touch smaller than the Omni but doesn't work as well in huge conditions. 3-5 foot with a wall and the Polara just screams. We had a UDT / Polara may meet at Refugio with Paul, Gary and myself. Both mats worked in the soft waves but I different ways. The UDT, with its massive surface area, simply floats over any dead spots. The Polara also worked but would hold speed over the flat spots requiring arcing turns to maintain speed and stay on plane. Very fun!

Thanks for that Aaron
