The rarity of mat riders may make the 'head low and go' minimalist stream-lined style unusual, odd, or even unattractive, to surf watchers accustomed to seeing prone riders (boogers) demonstrate a more sphinx-like posture.
I detest the look of board riders who 'hop' of flap across flat spots. Functional perhaps...but DAMN ugly :-)nathanojhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12011595834486391605noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3289837270278241948.post-20533776606548762972009-11-30T15:32:42.712-08:002009-11-30T15:32:42.712-08:00For me, my style is a function of what I want to e...For me, my style is a function of what I want to experience on the wave. I keep my head as low and close to the water as possible, which makes the experience more visually intense. I like to keep the inflation low so that I feel every little ripple, and I love taking my hands off the mat and sweeping them back against my sides. I think any given wave is most fun when I am just on the verge of losing all control and spinning out. All these together add up to the fastest way to travel across the wave's surface, which i suppose is my ultimate goal, just to go as fast as possible for as long as possible.Jamiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15429425998065304040noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3289837270278241948.post-84477889932392761752009-11-30T13:33:12.770-08:002009-11-30T13:33:12.770-08:00prana-i agree with skyler too, if i can remember c...prana-i agree with skyler too, if i can remember correctly. i remeber greenough saying to keep your chin down on the front of the mat, this really makes it fly! it does work but it looks goofy. i'm just sayin...soulgliderAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3289837270278241948.post-18322560177723005642009-11-30T11:45:45.817-08:002009-11-30T11:45:45.817-08:00I think Skyler is on to something.

I do the same thing on hard boards, trim from center forward a lot. But as I keep practicing and improving, my responses to the wave are becoming more adept, and I assume that some style will start to emerge eventually.

When I first started I consciously strove to remain quiet on the mat, and flow smoothly. Now that I have a little more muscle memory in place, my body can loosen up more and maybe tap in to some of that "body English" that Greenough mentions in the explanatory video on YouTube.misterdirkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16397330606862971507noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3289837270278241948.post-66302575973255827142009-11-30T11:35:21.917-08:002009-11-30T11:35:21.917-08:00To forget one's self is to be phenomenally abs...To forget one's self is to be phenomenally absent minded! ;)

GGRAYMANhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13807660409650446761noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3289837270278241948.post-16376362421097937872009-11-30T11:27:08.154-08:002009-11-30T11:27:08.154-08:00To forget oneself is to be enlightened. To forget oneself is to be enlightened.Skylernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3289837270278241948.post-46646413793538595292009-11-30T10:39:28.404-08:002009-11-30T10:39:28.404-08:00I'm with both of the above.
