I was making a “long-time-no-see” visit to Surfmatters yesterday and noted
that several travelling mat surfers (Remember Uncle Travelling Matt from Fraggle
Rock?) reported a common reaction of incredulity, surprise and delight from
other surfers and tourists (often European?) perhaps observing for the first
time a surfmat under weigh.
I had a the same reaction during a trip to Lohi’s in the Maldives a few
years ago. After one nice ride I came in at the narrow keyhole to be greeted by
a round of applause. Now I know how Kelly feels! :-D
