tom the airline pilot from Germany stopped by for a visit today. seems like a very nice fellow. we talked matting and life in general. i love making friends through matting. surf nerds unite!
sorry to hijack comments, but looking at toda's header pic.Still astounded at GG's ability to carry a 40 pound camera on his back and surf.Uncanny. What's the difference between a nerd and geek?Does asking this question make me either?
Nerd, geek, eccentric (Yes, Steiny.), neither - Who cares?!
Seems there´s quite a bit more humility (for whatever reason), appreciation of the human existence´s wonders and open joy (smiles and childish laughter) involved in sliding on mats, than some forms of "standing macho" waveriding I´ve witnessed the last two days. (Yep, I held my line while the Brazilian dude pulled out - coz I would have run him over with a mat.)
Heat up the fire/barbecue, get wet and enjoy the sunset/sunrise.
Being run over by a mat is a silky-smooth sensation, like being licked by a lion's tongue. I've been run onto and ridden to the sand by Grayman many a time. Been seeing my analyst about it though...
Any surf in Deutschland described by your buddy? .. thinking the N Sea would be a bit nip. But Have seen paipo view of N Sea from Amsterdam area from: http://monsterboardsorg.blogspot.com/
If you live on the coast (Baltic or Sylt/island) in Germany, you might get some winter wind/storm-swell. (Hence kite- or sailboarding around here, mostly.) Dutch coast is exposed a bit better, but not great. (Eef/monsterboard lives close to the coast.)
Water is not colder (if at all) than central California. The surf in these parts is nothing to write home about unless you get really lucky (I live 4hrs inland from Domburg)
Gotta hook up with Eef though, one day. He seems to be a real "surf-nerd".
