Paul,
The kids and I went to Rehoboth Beach this week for one last outing before school starts on Monday. The wife had to stay and work unfortunately.
There was a bit of small surf and we went to Indian River Inlet both days. Sandor and I had a pretty good session each day. Beatriz used my phone to get some mat surfing pictures and here are one of each of us. The “a” photo is Sandor and the “b” and "c" photos are of me.

The north side of IR Inlet is a great boarding spot. When ever we are at our place in South Bethany we will always head up there. In fact, my daughters and I are looking forward to the labor day weekend when we can try out our brand new 4th Gear mats!!!
I surfed the inlet in the mid 60s on long boards. I stayed at the camp ground for most of the summer. Suffice it say it was glorious. Now I ride mats and wood paipo boards. I live in Philadelphia so normally get to DE throughout the year. I also go to the Naval Jetties up in Henlopen and down to Assategue etc. Good to hear of another matter in the area. Perhaps we can have a mat meet someday.
I rode mat in Deal NJ and Sandy Hook over Labor day. It was small but lots of fun. Sandy Hook is a great natural park with an insane view of the NYC skyline.
I have not been to the inlet since the beach widening effort commenced last fall. What's your spin on the impacts? Also, the South Inlet gets some spitting lefts under the right conditions .. Or at least it did? When will they ever learn.

My daughters and I surf matted on the north side of the jetty over the labor day weekend. Fun but fairly rough cause of the strong winds. The best conditions were on Sunday morning on the low incoming tide. Waves were mostly breaking close to shore…partly because of the wind and partly because of the new beach profile. Hopefully by next summer the bottom slope will flatten back to more normal conditions...
